Well, well, well.... here I am. I guess I should just get this over with. It's become clear to me that rp has changed drastically in the 10+ years I've been rping. Only the last 6 years I've been rping online and I always believed it was the story that was important. Not the constant fighting and trying to find out who's strongest. Since this isn't the case. I'm here to find someone to be a sparring partner/teacher in the turn based system.
For those of you who know me from before... fighting has never been my strong point, but it never stopped me from doing what I had to do. Of course, in the end, as usual, it just wasn't enough. I always failed. I know some of you will come here and surely make jokes at this unorthodox request, others will just ignore it. but if there's someone out there that can help. It'd be appreciated.

I'm not going to do it myself, because I simply don't have the time, but I'll see what I can do about possibly getting you a 'teacher'.

Pah. Don't bother. We need more RPing around here, not bloody combat.

Simple, just aim and shoot... If you want, roll a dice. If you get 3 or up you hit, 2 or 1 you miss. Or whatever, make your own odds. And I have never RPed a fight against another RPer, I always play the puny human and everyone else is the morphing werewolf!

I resent that!
I'm a dragon, not a stinky garou.

It's pretty bad if even a human is cliched, eh?
But what is left to make? Lovecraft took most of the mythological stuff, Tolkien took another big chunk, and everything else was taken by D&D.
About every blend of sci-fi and fantasy with modern has already been done, so we can't do that either.
And Sci-Fi... there's just nothing, it's all the same.
So what could we possibly make that was new and exciting?

Nothing's "orginal" anymore. Take what's on the table and just tweak it out.

Make your own races, giving the races a name like 'Kusyran' or 'Kysarian.' Build your own world of your own races, giving them characteristics, their own weapons, and magic style their race or kingdom uses.
If you want to be original you have to build your own world. Basing them off ancient periods of time.
One kingdom could be like 'Feudal Japan' there could be something similiar to the 'Roman Empire.' There could be arbarian people with ram tusks coming from their jaws.
The possibilities are endless with imagination. Craete your own cultures, worlds and religions if you want to get that in depth with things.

I've given up on that. Most of my ideas I come up with that I think are original, I find out have already been used either in a game, cartoon, movie, or in a book. Possibilities are as endless as they are that someone's already thought of it.
Yes, I'm a pessimist. You'd be too if you couldn't think up something that hasn't already been used.

I can understand what you're all saying. That's why back when I started out at the CoD, I created the Ryters and Came up with the idea of Terasle and the world it belongs in. I know now that it may not seem original, but it makes me feel good that I have something to go to for use. And with the help of Ashley as my sister and fellow Ryter, it's grown.

As far as I'm aware, physical confrontations are only the focal point when you decide to make it so, and there are plenty of RP's to be found that revolve around story-building and character-development.
Note that I'm not designating either form as superior, I'm just saying there's a choice involved -- one quite easily made, at that. It's not like someone's holding a proverbial knife to the RPing community's throat and forcing it to be geared more towards battling.
On another note, true originality is impossible to achieve. The execution of the idea is what makes it stand out from others akin to it.
In my humble opinion, of course.

Didn't think we'd see Avarice here, but when you make a big enough splash on someone elses site, you tend to get some recognition. Roleplay is a machine, people. Fighting is just a gear on that machine; if you take it off, and replace it with something else, the machine still runs. I'm an avid fighter, which we all know, but there's a place in roleplay for pure storytelling that doesn't involve combat. It all just goes back to the pride most males hold, and the "Alpha Male" syndrome inside most of us. Do your best, Jerry, and that's all anyone can ask of you.

Don't flatter yourself too much, now. It's not like you were still a topic of discussion by the time I returned from my lengthy vacation, but when I randomly happened upon the thread I decided to check what all the fuss was about just the same.

Only because I decided not to bother with it after Kanji tried to pull a Liberachi on me. Must have peaked your interest in some regard, though, or you wouldn't be here.
