Six years had passed since the Great War of the Republic that ended all tyranny and freed the people from the forces of evil. As it happened, Seiryou Shinjou mysteriously disappeared, as Saiya-jins often do, without giving anyone any word at all. Everyone at Blackfyre but the great General, Victor Kuroji, thought he was gone for good and perhaps moved on. Victor had known Seiryou for years prior to the war, and he knew that Seiryou had sensed something and left. He would return. Vyeriaz, meanwhile, had the sorrowful task of pronouncing an epitaph. Although she remained as the rightful royal ruler of Blackfyre, the royalty position greatly declined in power thereafter, and the Senate moved up to take charge. During the years that follow, the Senators grew greedy, and drank their power as if it were wine. Many of them became corrupted, and made decisions solely for themselves or for the welfares of their own families. Unemployment rose within the ‘Republic’, and the ranks of the army were plagued with barbarians and criminals. The knights tried to keep order as best they could, but when it came down to it, the army had them greatly outnumbered, and it became increasingly difficult to clean out the corruption that had infested the once great Republic. For five long years Blackfyre went on in this manner. It did not get dramatically worse for the striving Republicans, but things did not get better.
But then Seiryou Shinjou returned, and to a great spectacle of applause and cheers. The newly elected Supreme Chancellor, and his conspiring Senatorial ‘committee’, immediately glowered. Nevertheless, Seiryou had finally returned at it seemed that all would turn out for the better with the Super Saiya-jin back in power. Reunited with his loved ones and friends, Seiryou had many stories to tell. Meanwhile, in the background, a dark force had crept up on the spirit of the Republic. The Senate had smelled of corruption for years, but things had gotten progressively lethal over the past few months. Ailes Malogne, the Chancellor, had tried to turn things around into a totalitarian government but had failed. Now, however, he was working towards the same goal, and in order to push this further and also strengthen the collapsing economy of Blackfyre, he had wanted to do something drastic. When miners reported back to the Senate of the discovery of an unknown metallic alloy deep in the quarries at Yevon, the home of the Republic, Malogne investigated personally. It turned out the metal was indestructible and very malleable, and would improve their weapons on a great technological scale. There were not enough workmen to produce the immediate, great quantities Malogne desired, due to the relapse in the economy and the high rate of unemployment. To counter this, Malogne resorted to using criminals, prisoners, and even a vast number of political adversaries and discriminated Republican citizens as slaves. Yevon was quarantined and set aside from the rest of the Republic, and no one had any idea what had been transpiring.
Meanwhile, Seiryou Shinjou had caught wind of the slave trade and investigated. When he saw the horror of the beatings, forced labor, and bloodshed at Yevon, he went off on his own to gather his thoughts. The Saiya-jin had seen enough blood spilled in his time, and he knew Blackfyre might not be able to stomach another war, let alone in the condition the Republic was still in. Malogne himself went to all lengths to keep Seiryou away from Yevon, although he didn’t know Seiryou already knew about the slave trade. If he had known, Malogne would never have gone before the Senate and put the motion for Seiryou’s excommunication, believing him to be the cause of the underlying decline. Most of the Senate had been stunned by his proposal, and Senators like Scorch Lethae and Magdalen Lorne expressed open contempt and suspicion. Malogne had made a mistake, but he quickly picked up the pieces by paying off a vast majority of Senators, granting several huge estates, and gaining the upper hand by taking the majority. He could not, however, move around the law of the land. The Constitution stated that once a motion was on the floor, it had to be voted on. If it wasn’t, it could never be voted on again. Therefore, they were stuck with Seiryou as the Lord. The vile Chancellor frowned at this but he knew that he would have to work around it. He had all of the power now, including an army that was legally loyally bound to the Senate and at his disposal.
Seiryou met with his old friend, Victor, the popular General of the Army. They both knew another war would dawn soon, and they needed to be prepared in case it came early. There was nothing they could do about the slave trade, lest it give Malogne a reason to execute both of them. Victor Kuroji himself posed another challenge for the corrupt politicians. Though the army would follow the Senate, and had been overly ranked with thugs and criminals, the just general was still at the head of it. Malogne knew he would have to not only deal with Seiryou, but Victor as well. And then there were the knights, who protected law and order and upholded the justice put forth by The Code…Ailes Malogne certainly had his hands full. Seiryou, meanwhile, decided to seek foreign help at the kingdom of Valencia far to the southeast. They were outnumbered and out powered in their position. Victor would travel with him, for he had once served the King there, and would provide diplomatic aid. Stryker Elipsion, the First Knight, was placed in charge of the Knights themselves. Victor had sent Jack Serithva, the Second Knight, to lie low at Yevon, gather more information, and wait there for his personal mesenger. Victor hoped to have the citizens catch the Senate at their own foul play, and with Seiryou and himself out of the picture, there would be few suspicions. Orion Einzan, meanwhile, the icy Third Knight, began recruiting and training more warrior knights to prepare for the coming struggle. With Victor gone, however, and Seiryou as well, Malogne was free to manipulate the army to his will. He would set the tone for both to be assassinated in their travels or upon their return. It was almost a blessing from God, or so he thought. His fists clenched with the thought of real, true power once more.
But that power was taken away from him soon enough, and not by Victor or Seiryou. The bloodshed believed to befall Blackfyre in the coming months had not been prevented…but accelerated.
