After the War of the Republic came to a dramatic close, Seiryou Shinjou, Toric Blackfyre, the knights, and the rest of the loyal Blackfyrian populace were faced with the extremely difficult task of reconstruction. Homes and business had been destroyed, marketplaces had been ravaged, walls and cobblestone keeps had been torn apart. The figures regarding deaths ranged from sixteen to twenty thousand, most of whom were soldiers, either military or domestic mercenaries, like the knights. Although the death toll and price toll, for that matter, were staggering, most people considered it small compared to what life would have been like under the tyrannical Shin Gouki. Nevertheless, Seiryou Shinjou had stood tall against the forces of evil and delivered Blackfyre from the menace. Yet even after the war it seemed that Blackfyre would still not be at peace. The patrons were not out of the woods just yet. More dark and bloody suffering would they have to endure before peace and prosperity could reign true and long once again.
In the aftermath of the war, Vyeriaz Shadow (who eventually became Mrs. Vyeriaz Shinjou) was appointed head consulate and given the task of reforming and reuniting the Senate. The army was placed back under the Senate’s control, as a body, and the position of Supreme Chancellor had been abolished for the time being. With the death of Simon Telanthius, the army was without a leader, and stood as the final factor between becoming a stable, cooperative Republic or a corrupted system of alliances again. Victor Kuroji, the wise and honorable first knight of Blackfyre, was named General, which was not only a plus for the army, but signaled a long lasting peace between all three parties of the Senate, army, and royalty. Seiryou Shinjou had made most of these decisions, acting as an advisor to Toric Blackfyre, who had still been under stress do to his involvement in the War of the Republic. After having been discovered in voting for Seiryou and Aeon’s deaths, as well as the election of Gouki in the first place (the election part was nothing to grab her for, but the fact that she voted on both issues led to the suspicion of conspiracy, which was proved anyway), Sarai Blackfyre was banished to a lone arctic island in the North. Toric, distraught over the banishment of his young Lady, found himself uninterested in assuming Lordship over Blackfyre. The people of the kingdom, having grown less and less fond of Toric from the day he sat on the throne, looked more toward the likes of Seiryou and Aeon for leadership. The day came when Toric was finally viewed as an annoyance and a ‘stone on the throne’, according to some folk. One afternoon, while traveling back to the Castle through the Deepwood forest from Terre Des Mythes, an unknown assassin struck Toric Blackfyre in the neck with an arrow. Seiryou, furious over the death of his friend, exploded in a violent rage of energy, creating a clearing nearly half a mile in diameter. The clearing eventually became the foundation of the Great Blackfyrian Library.
Upset over the death of his friend, Seiryou could not even be comforted by friends like Stryker and Victor. That was not, of course, on the minds of Blackfyrians all over. They needed a leader, and the Senate had no Chancellor. Seiryou was elected unanimously without the Saiya-jin even knowing it. It happened overnight even, while most elections span over a period of seven days to get all votes accounted for and some campaigning time in. So Seiryou Shinjou took the throne with his wife, Vyeriaz, the Lord and Lady of Blackfyre. With Seiryou on the throne, who was a hero during the War of the Republic and a popular figure anyway within the Senate and kingdom itself, morale climbed greatly, especially amongst the ranks in the army. Hundreds of workers were stripped of their economic jobs to repair the destruction that had been the result of the devastating war, and it seemed that peace had finally been achieved.
Late in the summer, however, perhaps about three or four months after the end of the war, reports of a deadly disease began creeping up from Terre Des Mythes, originally discovered by the Lady Rene Andraste, Blackfyre’s cleric. As the disease spread, Seiryou grew concerned and went to the town to personally investigate. The disease had spread fast, and pretty soon all of Terre Des Mythes had become infected with it. After assigning Victor to set up a perimeter around the Castle to ward off disease-infested patrons, Seiryou ordered Terre to be quarantined. The several who had managed to elude the safety line were shipped overseas to the Holy Islands in exile, among them Hlokk Arkersson, a Scandinavian traveler, and Scorch Lethae, a lethal mercenary. Meanwhile, back in Terre Des Mythes, it was discovered that the disease caused mutations of the body, turning the innocents into raging behemoths!
As the behemoths wreaked havoc upon Terre, Blackfyrian citizens locked their doors up tight, while Seiryou, who was still visiting Terre on inspection, battled two of the vicious beasts, managing to take two out before escaping with his life. Scorch Lethae, sent to the Holy Islands, had been the original cause of the mutating disease, when a part of him known as the demon Hybrid broke loose. Scorch, the clock already ticking against his life, turned on Hybrid, attempting to destroy him before the mutation got him and the others, while Hlokk prayed to his Gods for help. Back at the Castle, things were growing rather pear-shaped. Victor and the knights fought bravely, destroying all of the monsters that they could, but one managed to get inside the royal room. It was only with Raekin Sorofin’s quick thinking that the gateway to the chambers of the Senator’s lounge was slammed shut and locked, preventing the animals from getting inside. Seiryou Shinjou, meanwhile, fought his own war for the home front. As the mutations grew in amount, several hundred of the behemoths gathered together to form an immense one with a mind to destroy the Castle once and for all. Setting out to stop this menace, Seiryou took off after the oncoming beast, with the young child, Silver Aeon, hot on his heels.
Victor and the knights gradually secured the Castle, though it costed them many men. Almost everyone had been injured, including the General himself. Silver Aeon and Seiryou Shinjou mustered their strength and destroyed the huge behemoth before it could reach Blackfyre by combining their strength and executing a breath-taking pillar of light attack, wiping the being from existence. Though the majority of the behemoths were dead for the time being, more would soon come, until Hybrid was killed. Scorch battled his demonic half to a draw, with neither side gaining an upper hand on the other at all. Hlokk Arkersson, meanwhile, had achieved a connection with his Goddess, Freya. After almost an hour of prayers and offerings, Freya appeared and granted Scorch an unusual supernatural technique, which Scorch used on Hybrid to end him, and cure those who were still infected of the disease, ending the plague once and for all.
