Shin Gouki had trailed Seiryou ever since the last tournament hosted by the infamous Castle of Dragons. In that tournament, he had battled his fellow Super Saiya-jin in a legendary clash to what had seemed like a draw at first. Seiryou took advantage of a mistake on Gouki’s part and capitalized, pinning Gouki in a predicament that would have meant certain death had it not been for Seiryou’s leniency. Gouki made off with his life and Seiryou with the championship bestowed upon him after winning the tournament. Gouki, an evil, scheming man, vowed revenge upon Seiryou. From that moment forth, it would by Saiya-jin versus Saiya-jin, and it would eventually suck the kingdom of Blackfyre into a great war for the fate of the Republic, a true case of good combating the forces of evil.
At first, Shin Gouki was remotely quiet within the Castle grounds, mingling with the others under a clever disguise. Seiryou knew he was there, but was already being dragged into the endless problems Toric faced as the new Lord of the Republic. Though the Senate opted to cooperate with Toric in order to strengthen Blackfyre herself, corruption still ran rampant on the outskirts. Another change in balance of power seemed to be on the rise, as the knights themselves, at the command of Victor Kuroji, broke away from the corrupted and politically conquered Blackfyrian military. Simon Telanthius, General of the army, was a separatist at heart, himself rejecting the bureaucratic nonsense that the Senate dwelled in. Although the military itself was, by law Blackfyrian law, under the complete authority of the Senate, Simon silently rejected this in his heart. He, of course, could have defied the Senate, but he knew that the time was not wise just then. He had a feeling that something would be produced from this political turmoil brewing in the aftermath of Toric Blackfyre’s election, and that something (or someone) would be the key to his future coup. Kuroji, the loyal and honorable first knight of Blackfyre, had befriended Toric and Seiryou, who he had already known in a previous land before coming to Blackfyre. A veteran of a tragic past, Victor had always been very focused when it came to defending those that he loved and those that loved him. In pledging complete and irreversible allegiance to Blackfyre, Victor had put the mercenary occupation of a freelancing knight in his past. A true warrior and gladiator was he, and the rest of the knights followed his lead. The seesaw of power within the Republic had tipped once again, and tensions had begun to run high.
Almost on queue to stir the snake pit, Shin Gouki emerged from hiding and confronted Simon Telanthius, expressing his agreement with the General’s vile ambitions. They formed a pact: Gouki would help Simon create his own confederacy of anti-Republicans and Simon would help Gouki dominate the Senate and Lordship to gain complete control of the kingdom. They accomplished the first step towards this goal when Telanthius pulled a few strings and convinced the Senate to appoint Gouki the chancellor, or spokesman leading the Senate itself. With the military on his side in secrecy, Gouki’s confidence soared to great heights, and he mingled with the Blackfyrian folk, scouting the current situation out for his future attack. There was an unspoken feeling of acknowledgement between Seiryou and Gouki, the two within the same room in the gathering area but not catching eyes. They knew who they were, and Seiryou knew that Gouki was waiting for something. There was no end to the man’s mad schemes. While conversing others, Seiryou watched as Gouki bumped shoulders in the crowded tavern with Stryker Elipsion, the noble second knight of Blackfyre. After verbally provoking Elipsion to disrespect him, Gouki brutally assaulted him. Watching in horror, Seiryou broke their law of silence and launched himself across the room, punching Gouki hard in the face to send him reeling out the door. In doing so, Seiryou had taken the initiative and begun the war. He had played into Gouki’s game.
Silver Aeon, a powerful sorcerer in the company of Blackfyre, had also witnessed the crime, and sent the Super Saiya-jin warlord packing with a hard hit, knocking him back further out the door. Gouki, surprisingly at first, did not put up a fight, but left, a plan already on his mind. In the early morning hours, Shin Gouki returned to Blackfyre, claiming assault and demanding Seiryou Shinjou and Silver Aeon be brought up on charges for so. The General, sensing that this was the right moment to intervene and ‘legally’ side with Gouki, backed him at the command of the entire Blackfyrian military. The knights, followers of truth and wisdom, knew that Seiryou not Aeon for that matter could be guilty for such crimes. However, they were powerless as the Senate was called in a special meeting to vote on the matter. Though their scheming should have produced the support of the entire Senate by then, patriotic Republicans who knew Simon as a separatist and a liar like Zachai, Sky, and others, provided the foundation for the Republicans politically. In the end, the vote went toward Gouki’s side, and the two were sentenced to public execution. The deciding vote had been cast by Sarai Blackfyre, the new player in the game and co-conspirator of Gouki.
The next morning, Silver Aeon and Seiryou Shinjou were led in shackles to the cutting board in the town common. It was then that yet another new player entered the chess game for the Republic. If it were not for Valcrist Rochiem’s Deathmare blade, the two may never have gone on to wage war against the separatists. Using his ability to control the sword, Aeon’s brother freed the two Blackfyrian protectors and allowed them to escape. They fled back to Blackfyre, seeking out Gouki.
Gouki, in retaliation, captured Toric Blackfyre and Vyeriaz Shadow, a Senator, as hostages and held them in the tower that would eventually become this very library. One hundred years ago, it was filled with quarters for the army’s top soldiers and officers, torture devices, and dungeons. Gouki brought Toric to one of these horrifying rooms and proceeded to beat him unmercifully, demanding that he step down from the throne. Toric, although weak and gentle, had a golden heart encased in steel. He would not relent and so suffered. Vyeriaz was kept in a separate room, serving only as Gouki’s backup and key to the Senate if it were to turn on him, though he had doubted this. The Saiya-jin tortured Toric until Seiryou arrived, blowing through the tower’s defenses to meet with Gouki himself at the top. Victor Kuroji and Stryker Elipsion, along with the other knights, fought heroically against the soldiers attempting to storm the tower to protect the Chancellor and the General, who was also inside. Victor himself stormed upwards, and in an explosive burst of current, destroyed the device holding Toric and freed him, bringing the agonized Lord back to ground level and depositing him in the homestead of a Blackfyrian close by. Meanwhile, Seiryou blasted Gouki down through the tower to the ground, where Aeon pounded on him viciously before the Chancellor was once again able to tuck tail and escape.
