Very little is known of Seiryou’s past…he was first acknowledged upon entry into the world class King of Fighters tournament. The golden warrior’s unbelievable powers were nothing to be taken lightly. Seiryou was a Saiya-jin---a race with incredible supernatural technique almost not comprehendible by Earth’s inhabitants. The Saiya-jins, although not much is known of them either, once occupied a distant planet, but at the time of Blackfyre’s golden age, Seiryou was the last known of his race. Of course, this would be proved wrong at a later date…but at the time, Seiryou was the one and only. The mythical warrior defeated Blood Pain in the finals of the tournament to become the undisputed KOF champion. This bestowed huge waves of recognition upon the boy…but unfortunately, his celebrations were short-lived. Seiryou, who was by then only seven, disappeared from the crowds and went out on his own. And so, upon departure, the enigma vanished, as if it never were.
Auron Blackfyre, who, accompanied by his personal guard, made a tour of Terre Des Mythes one afternoon…not one so much for inspection but to condole the wife of a brilliant strategist who had been killed in an important battle for the Republic against barbarians in the east. It was on this day that the Lord of Blackfyre came across a ten year old boy whose presence only caused him to hesitate before even coming close. There had been an unknown air to the boy…a mysterious factor that Auron could not quite place. It was not so much that the child’s eyes were an unflawed, raw black, but the fact that the child had had a feeling of pureness…of satisfaction…surrounding him in an aura at all times. This aura was most distinctly felt when the Lord took in conversation with the boy, and especially if the child was in a good mood. The power that young Seiryou possessed, although not needed to be witnessed, could be felt simply by standing near him. It was in the same moment that Auron laid eyes upon Seiryou that he knew that the future and fate of Blackfyre would rest upon the child’s shoulders…<br>
Seiryou was placed into the home of the Shinjous, a pair of Japanese settlers who had migrated across the continent to settle within Terre Des Mythes. Dojima Shinjou was a blacksmith who worked for the young Caleb Ferus, junior to the father who had instructed Auron Blackfyre. His mistress was a diplomat who seldom came home, her occupation keeping her in far-off Esteron for years at a time. Dojima, who worked long hours for weeks and then had weeks of free time, took to Seiryou as any good-natured father might take to a new son. Seiryou, a master of combat, never spoke of his reign as KOF champion, nor of his incredible skill as a Saiya-jin warrior. He allowed Dojima to tutor him at his foster father’s will, for it made the man almost younger, he so enjoyed it. What Seiryou himself did take interest in, aside from his new surroundings and Blackfyre itself, was the skill of swordsmanship. Dojima’s boss, Caleb, produced a mighty sword for the young warrior, which he named Caladbolg.
Seiryou, who had already become the talk of the town, grew almost two years in Blackfyre alongside Auron’s heir to the position of Lord: Toric. The two shared their adventures with each other, and each promised to look out for the other. From then on, Seiryou Shinjou and Toric Blackfyre shared a bond of friendship, almost brotherhood. This was to Auron’s utmost approval, who was aging and knew Toric, as intelligent as he was, lacked the charisma and strength it took to be a leader, would need a shoulder to lean on. That shoulder was the well-loved golden warrior, Seiryou Shinjou. Toric was wed to Sarai Blackfyre when Seiryou was but a teenager. Almost days afterward, as if his son’s marriage signaled a goal achieved, Auron Blackfyre passed away in his sleep. The Lady of Blackfyre, Vera, committed suicide by swallowing deadly poison, unable to bear her husband’s death. Toric, as shaken as he was from the death of his beloved parents, ascended to the position of Lord.
Blackfyre’s golden age came to an immediate end upon Auron’s death. The Senate still had the greater power within the Republic, but the Lord commanded the respect, love, and loyalty of the people. His achievements across the border would not be forgotten. The patriotic Blackfyrians admired Toric’s intellect but could not even begin to compare him to his father Auron. Originally, the Lord’s power in the Republican hierarchy had been great, for he commanded the respect of the people and the loyalty of the army. With an army to back him, the Senate would be foolish to challenge a veto. Auron’s death and Toric’s succession changed the balance of power…the people knew of no true leader to look up to, although they were willing to trust Toric. The armies, although commanded by the Senate, were fiercely loyal to the robed. Because of Auron’s death, the Senate became the supreme political and legislative power within the Republic.
Seiryou stood by Toric during these terrible times, supporting his friend as best as he could…but the young warrior who would soon be the leader that the people longed for had his own troubles. Shadows of the tournaments and battles in his past swept over his emotion-strewn mind. Seiryou forgot all about the confusion in the Republic as he attempted to figure out who was trying to follow him through his mind. Only other Saiya-jins could do so…and there was only one other Super Saiya-jin on this planet that Seiryou Shinjou had ever encountered.
But by the time he realized who had been following him, it was too late. His nemesis had arrived.
